Neon Scale
A downloadable game
Neon Scale is was made for GMTK 2024 Jam and was done in the short version of 48hours.
Play notes into the board and try to score 3 points before the (stupid) AI enemy.
While you play notes you make also simple song at the same time that constantly plays.
I played around what kind of mechanics i could make and thematically would work for the game. Its pretty packed with information from the start, since i didnt have enough time to do more decks or deck building parts for easier learning.
All kinds of comments are welcome!
Help
- Controls: Use mouse, hovering over object should show tooltips
- If you can place a card its probably because its requirements arent met.
- Alt+F4 to quit or quit at the game end.
Detailed rules:
There is some tooltips ingame but i didnt have time to create keywords/tooltips for cards.
Main mechanics
- Replace, replace a card (some can be placed on enemy side)
- Rising/Descending, notes in next to each other were they rise/descend
- Score: Score a point
- Draw a card
- Copy a card (hand, board)
Rules
- First to score 3 points wins
- 2 actions per turn
- Drawing and playing cost 1 action
- Discarding one played card (note) cost 2 actions
- If draw from empty deck enemy scores 1 point
Decks
Decks contain 4 of each card.
Player deck (D major)
Idea was to make deck that would work make a song that repeats same notes and is rising and descending
Enemy deck (C major)
This was first deck and meant to be simple starting deck if i had time to make deckbuilding into the game. Idea was to make simple constantly rising song and encourage that.
Hint: The small number on right bottom is midi value of the note, so its easier to know the note value since C4 is the lowest for each octave wicth can be confusing.
Disclaimer: I have no proper education on musical theory.
There is no webbuild since the audio sync breaks and performance was horrible.
